BALLET HISPÁNICO ENGAGEMENT AND REACHUP DAY
Our 10th Anniversary Season has kicked off in a tremendous way, with two Jazz at Kingsbury Hall performances, as well as a week-long engagement with Ballet Hispánico. The week included a master class with School of Dance students, a social event with our community partners with a dance lesson by Ballet Hispánico’s amazing dancers, and a sold-out K-12 educational matinee. Following the matinee, nearly 300 students participated in our first-ever ReachUP Day, that included a campus tour, hands-on experiences at the ProtoSpace Lab at the Marriott Library, an exhibit and artmaking experience at Gittins Gallery, and a creative movement class with Tanner Dance.
CELEBRATION OF COMMUNITY PARTNERS
As a thank you to our many campus and community partners, we hosted a dance party on the stage at Kingsbury Hall. Participants had an incredible dinner catered by Arempas, followed by an informal class with two amazing dancers, who taught everyone a couple of routines based in Latin dance traditions.
EDUCATIONAL MATINEE
More than 1,700 K-12 students, coming from as far as Wendover, participated in the educational matinee with Ballet Hispánico. The company performed excerpts of a few pieces, and then answered questions from the students. Afterwards, one teacher commented, “For many of our students, this was their first time attending a professional performance, and it was truly an unforgettable experience. The combination of arts, culture, and exploration of the campus opened their eyes to new possibilities and inspired them to dream bigger.”
REACHUP DAY
After the matinee, nearly 300 students stayed on campus to participate in additional educational activities. One group got to see all the amazing technology available to U students in the ProtoSpace Lab in the Marriott Library. Another group took a creative movement class from teachers at Tanner Dance. Pictured left, this group visited an exhibition by local multidiscplinary artist Jorge Rojas at the Gittins Gallery and then got to make their own art!
